KUI 2021 Conference Mode Online-Only

Laptop with a cup next to it

The organization committee agreed on a online-only conference mode for KUI 2021.

Given the increasing COVID-19 cases in Germany, quarantine decrees for unvaccinated travelers arriving from high risk countries, and projection for the upcoming weeks, a on-site conference does not seem to be realizable and does not feel right. We are sad about the decision made as we also would have enjoyed inspiration by presentations with subsequent face-to-face discussions, networking opportunities, and scientific exchange. However, we give highest priority to the health and safety of attendees and shift the conference to the Internet.

The conference programme was updated for online mode. All times are CEST = UTC+2 time zone.

Conference is cancelled

Due to the ongoing uncertain situation caused by Covid-19, the conference commitee have decided to cancel this year’s conference “Culture and Computer Science – Extended Reality”.

Nevertheless, the conference proceedings will soon be published by vwh-Verlag.

Those who have already paid the registration fee will be refunded.

The 19th conference on Culture and Computer Science will hopefully be held as usual in May 2021. We will inform you about the Call for Abstracts in time.

Important Information: Conference is postponed

Unfortunately, we have to inform you that the Berlin federal state government decided yesterday on immediate measures for the scientific community to counteract the spread of the coronavirus. Among other things, all conferences and meetings that were to take place in the period up to the end of July have to be cancelled. Therefore, the conference “Culture and Computer Science – Extended Reality” unfortunately cannot be held on May 14 and 15 at Schloss Köpenick as planned.
We are currently trying to find an alternative date in autumn and will inform you as soon as possible about further planning.

First Keynote

We are happy to announce our first Keynote speaker:

Prof. Joachim Sauter from ART+COM Studios (Berlin, Germany)

A personal journey to various corners of the AR world

Although there are still many white spots, the map of the AR world has been relatively well explored. Over the past three decades I have had the privilege as an artist, researcher, designer and educator of participating in many expeditions to the edges of this ever expanding world. This trip should be reported. From our first self-developed handheld AR devices in the early 90s to handheld AR applications in the recently opened exhibition in the Berlin Futurium. From the first AR installations for Daimler Benz in the late nineties to current head-mounted AR research projects for firefighters. From small-scale AR sculptures for museums to extensive AR installations in public spaces.
